Virginia Beach Fishing Pier 2018 Opening Day
The Virginia Beach Fishing Pier 2018 opening day was Good Friday this season. Weather is always the first determining factor in the Spring, and operating hours are hopefully set at 8AM – 8PM daily, weather permitting.
Water temperature is probably the second indicator about when the fish might show up ready to feed. Mid 50’s is a good target, but sometimes the fish start early. Their migration takes them into the Chesapeake Bay to feed and spawn as the Summer progresses.
Usually Whiting or Roundhead, Spot, Bluefish and Speckled Trout are available in the Spring. Blue crabs can start to show up in the nets and over the years Clear Nosed Skates can seem to cover the ocean floor.
Sometimes artificial lures, like Gotcha plugs and soft rubber grubs are produtive, but bottom baits, such as Bloodworms, Squid and Shrimp, catch more of the early fare.
It’s definitely time to check out your fishing gear and see what needs to be replaced after last season. For the latest fishing report from the VA Beach Fishing Pier call (757) 428-2333.
